Welcome to the first 9 weeks of school

The new school year is beginning and I am SOOO excited to meet my new kids.

In case you are looking around to learn more about me or your new class for next year, I thought I would take a moment and welcome you.

It can be very scary to go into a new place and not know what to expect.  I understand that and want to reassure you that we will have an AWESOME year this year.

In case you want an idea of what we will be working on during the year, I am listing some of the skills we start the year off with.  Most of these are things that were covered last year and I just want to make sure you understand each of them very well and help anyone that is having any problems.

If you have any questions or are scared about anything coming up this year, just leave me a message below and I will gladly talk to you about it.

I am also trying to get our class a facebook page for this year and I will let you know when that is ready.

Feel free to look around and I will see you soon.

Sections of books: Table of contents, Title page, Glossary, and Index.
Reference materials and how to use them: Dictionary, Thesaurus (synonyms and antonyms), Atlas, internet research.
Finding and using guide words: alphabetical order, how to locate entry words on a dictionary page.
Types of sentences: statement, command, exclamation, question.
Subject and Predicate: Subject is who or what the sentence is about.  The Predicate is the action of the subject.

Fact and Opinion:  A fact is something that can be proved.  An opinion is the thoughts or feelings of someone.
Main idea and supporting details: Main idea is the big idea of a book or paragraph.  The supporting details are the details that the main idea is talking about.  The details MUST support the main idea.

In math we will be working on our basic addition and subtraction facts and the following skills:

Telling time: To the hour, half hour, and quarter how.
Elapsed time:  What will the time be in _____ hours/mins?  What WAS the time ____ hrs/mins ago?

Digits: Using digits to create 2 and 3 digit numbers, ordering numbers from least to greatest and greatest to least.
Number patterns: Finding the pattern (rule) used in a number pattern and continuing the pattern.

This is not a complete list of the skills we will be working on, but it should give you a good idea of where to start.  I will continue to add to this list as the year continues.

Welcome back to school!!!

Welcome to my new 3rd grade family for the 2014 - 2015 school year.  I am SO excited to get to meet everyone soon and begin our year together.

This year is going to bring so many new things for both of us.  We are going to learn so many things this year and we are going to have fun doing all of it.  I may have the title of teacher of the classroom, but you are going to be the teachers this year for yourselves and your friends.

I have provided many wonderful pages to help you teach yourselves when you are not at school.  You can access games for your spelling and vocabulary words and even watch youtube videos that will help you learn skills.

You should be receiving your welcome back to school letter soon and I really hope you will come to the meeting so we can talk about the school year.  This year is going to be very different then your past school years and I hope it will be the best year you have ever had.

I will see you soon and feel free to look around our site.

Welcome to our page

Welcome to Mrs. Gilbert's 3rd grade class web page.  I hope to update this page regularly with class information, activities, educational links, and any other items that I think you might find helpful.

Currently you will find links above for access to detailed information about our reading lessons for the entire year.  A link for an interactive math site and a spelling and vocabulary site are also above.  Spelling city is a site where I will list both our spelling and vocabulary words each week and students can play games, practice, and even take tests all using our weekly words.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you will check back often.
